We'll pass near West Ilsley and Catmore on our route from Bury Down car park to Farnborough, where we'll see its 11th century church and rectory, both with connections to Sir John Betjeman. We'll return along the Ridgeway, from which we should have extensive views across the Vale.
The walk follows tracks and field paths with some shady sections in the morning. After lunch there is a short section of road walking before we head to the Ridgeway, which will be exposed but we should benefit from a breeze. While there will be undulations, there are no steep ascents or descents and the pace will not be fast.
It is essential that you bring plenty of water as we are likely to be in full sun for long periods. Please also make sure you have a sun hat and sun cream. I recommend that you bring sun glasses as the surface of part of the Ridgeway is down to the chalk.
Don't forget your packed lunch.
Well behaved dogs on leads are welcome.
Please note: we encourage car sharing to our walks but for personal safety do not arrange this for you.
