A linear walk from the village of Ganllwyd to Dolgellau. The route follows a minor road which becomes a path through open deciduous woodland crossing a footbridge & ascending to view the Rhaedr Ddu a scenic waterfall. the path still ascending emerges from the woodland onto open moorland passing some ruins of the Cefn Coch gold mines. Here there will be visibility permitting good views of Cadair Idris, the Arans, Rhobell & the Coed y Brenin woodlands. The reasonably level path meanders along the lower slopes of Y Garn before descending down an old path that the Monks from the nearby Cymer Abbey used to use down into Llanelltyd. After crossing the Mawddach over the old stone bridge the route has a minor ascent before the final descent down through the houses of Dolgellau into the town centre. Optional refreshments at a cafe here can be taken before the bus back to Aberystwyth.
