The first in a series of three challenge walks, “Grand Huit”, French for “rollercoaster”, features eight hills and a total ascent of 640 metres over a 19 km circular route around Ibstone, Turville, and Cadmore End, one of the most scenic areas in the Chilterns.
The challenge will be to complete the route, including breaks, in approximately 5 hours. Please bring packed lunch.
Route Description:
From Cadmore End, we head west towards Harecramp Cottages, beginning our first ascent to Ibstone House. The route continues through Twigside Bottom and Penley Wood, leading to our second ascent up to Ibstone Common.
Following the Chiltern Way, we descend towards Hale Wood before making our third ascent through Great Wood to Halecorner Farm. A short walk along Ibstone Road brings us to Holloway Lane.
Our fourth ascent takes us past Turville Grange and onto Dolesden Lane. After a short fifth climb to Southend, we follow Shakespeare’s Way to begin our sixth ascent, reaching Turville Court.
From there, we descend into Turville, before tackling Turville Hill for our seventh ascent. After a pause near its iconic windmill landmark, we head down to Chequers Lane and begin the final climb to the top of Hanger Wood—our eighth ascent.
The walk concludes with a return to our starting point at Cadmore End.
Well behaved dogs welcome, but bear in mind you need above average fitness to catch up if clearing up after them on this fast paced walk!
