We’ll take a public footpath up to Bovingdon Green, follow the Chiltern Way to Hambleden, then turn towards the River Thames and follow its north bank to Henley. The return journey will follow the Thames Path on the south bank of the river as far as Hambleden Lock, where we’ll cross to the north bank and follow this to Medmenham and Harleyford Golf Course. We’ll rejoin the Thames Path at Temple Lock and follow it back to Marlow.
The outward leg is undulating with one fairly steep descent. The return leg is mostly flat. There are several stiles, one potentially boggy patch, and a short tunnel, where you might want to use a torch.
Anyone not wanting to walk the entire route could return to Marlow on the 850 bus which operates every half hour from Henley (half way round) and Medmenham (three quarters of the way round)
Walk leaders: Catherine J and Jim J
Public toilets in Henley, where we'll stop for lunch. Bring a packed lunch or you could buy something there. We might briefly stop at a cafe or pub if they're not too busy. If arriving at the start by the 850 bus, it stops on West Street opposite Platts garage (if travelling from High Wycombe) and next to Platts garage (if travelling from Reading or Henley).
Please note the car park is private, permission has been granted to use it on 20 July but please don't use it at other times.
