Parking is on Broadway, Caerleon, near the Roman Amphitheatre. After a quick look at the Roman Amphitheatre we cross the River Usk and pick up the Usk Valley Walkway. A short steep climb takes us to the Celtic Manor Golf Course before descending to the lower Celtic Manor Golf Course where we cross the river again on the 2010 Ryder Cup Bridge. Crossing fields we head towards Ponthir and return to Caerleon on the Lodge Hill Circular route, taking in the Roman Barracks as we return to our cars.
This route is varied and offers views of the Welsh Hills, the River Usk, fields and woodland. Some of the route is overgrown and in places little used. Please be prepared for this. The variety of the walk more than compensates for rough terrain in places.
