Overview

This is a simple walk in the Gwent Levels. This area is well-known as a stopover point for migrating birds as well as other wildlife. Part of the walk is inland to give an impression of the landscape and then we follow the Sea Wall with views across the Severn estuary.

Given the flat area many fields are prone to poor drainage and therefore can be muddy so most of the route is on hard tracks, and roads with only some fieldwalking.

Need comfortable boots for road walking, and gaiters for the muddy, wet field sections.

We follow several minor roads through Caldicot and Rogiet so beware any local traffic on these sections.

We should pass along the coastal path by Rogiet Range, and this is the expected 8.5-mile version. However, if warning flags show and access is prohibited then we must use a longer detour; this is the 10-mile version.
