Overview

Train strikes - so postponed to 2024 (already postponed once!)

Just turn up on the day - pre-registration not available for this walk

Moderately paced 11.5 (or 9.5) mile walk.

Lovely, varied walk in classic Wealden landscape containing a mix of pasture & woodland with panoramic views across the valleys, orchards, typical Wealden villages, converted oast houses galore & a stretch along the shore of the beautiful Bewl Water Reservoir. Undulating terrain with areas of level walking. An unmanned level crossingng at start of route. Some road/gravel/tarmac walking,  mainly on quiet country lanes & paths. Stiles in farming areas of the route. No toilets at Etchingham station.

Route: from Etchingham we make our way across fields in the valley, woods & farmland towards Sheepstreet Lane & later Ticehurst village before our lunch stop at Three Leg Cross. After lunch the route takes us to Biirchett’s Green through orchard, woodland & quiet paths prior to our descent to the shores of Bewl Water & then Wadhurst village, with the possibility of a refreshment stop before we finish at Wadhurst Rail Station

Lunch stop: Three Leg Cross. Please bring picnic. Refreshment opportunities at the Bull Inn. Further refreshment possibilities at Wadhurst village.

Drop-out points: Ticehurst- 4 miles into walk for bus to Wadhurst/ Tunbridge Wells Stations or Wadhurst village - 9.5 miles into walk for bus to Wadhurst Station

Meet at Etchingham Station at 10.25.  Note: no toilets at Etchingham Station.

Travel: Charing Cross 09.08/ Waterloo 09.11/Lon Bridge  09.17 - Southeastern Hastings train - arr Etchingham 10.23.
