Starting at South Kenton Station we begin the walk through the heart of John Betjeman’s Metroland suburbs and make our way through wooded paths and hills with great views over London. The usual mix of pavement and green spaces found all along the Capital Ring.
No stiles but quite a few roads to cross which all have crossings or pedestrian refuges. Toilets are mostly towards the end of the walk but may also be found at Preston Road tube station which we will walk past early in the walk.
It might be muddy in places if there has been rain.
For those who wish to do only part of the walk there are plenty of drop off points and good public transport links along the entire route.
There are shops along the route but I recommend bringing a packed lunch. We will stop for lunch around the Welsh Harp Reservoir.
The best and quickest way to get to South Kenton Station is on the London Overground Lioness Line from Euston. Trains run approximately every 15 minutes so the ‘last’ train to catch would be the 10:15 from Euston . South Kenton is also on the Bakerloo Line but there are more stops and it’s slower. All stations lie within the free travel zones for Freedom Passes and Oyster Cards.
Exit the station and turn right- we will meet outside the large pub - The Windermere - which you really can’t miss.
The walk concludes outside Highgate Station ( Northern Line)
