This Dark Peak walk takes in the splendid gritstone edge of Stanage, and the equally fine outcrops of Higger Tor and Carl Wark, site of an Iron Age hill fort, where we will have a chance to speculate over the lives of our early ancestors. This is a hilly route, and in view of the shorter daylight hours - we will be starting at 9.30am.
This walk crosses areas of high exposed moorland. It is essential that walkers bring warm clothing, waterproofs and strong waterproof footwear. Bear in mind it is the winter season, and regardless of the forecast on the day - be prepared for rapidly changing and potentially worsening conditions.
The group does not stop at cafes or pubs for lunch, and you should bring enough food and drinks with you to last the whole walk. We usually stop for a coffee break an hour or so into the walk, and stop for packed lunch around 1230-1300 although weather and a suitable location will affect both timings.
The walk leader has assessed this walk for the following risks, but during the walk others may become evident. You will come across, stiles, gates and other path furniture, hedges etc. You may come across road crossings, muddy/slippery sections, farm livestock & warning signs. You should remain stay alert and take individual responsibility
