This Dark Peak walk takes in the splendid gritstone edge of Stanage, and the equally fine outcrops of Higger Tor and Carl Wark, site of an Iron Age hill fort; an atmospheric place to speculate over the lives of our ancestors. Later in the walk, we will pass close to North Lees, made famous in Brontë’s classic, Jane Eyre. This is a hilly route, with several steep ascents, and in view of the shorter daylight hours - we will be starting at 9.30am.
There are toilets at start and finish, and also two thirds in - near North Lees house.
This walk crosses areas of high exposed moorland. It is essential that walkers bring warm clothing, waterproofs and strong waterproof footwear. Bear in mind it is the winter season, and regardless of the forecast on the day - be prepared for rapidly changing and potentially worsening conditions.
