Overview

A circular hill walk on varied tracks and mountain paths.  Carnferg is a hill to the east of the Fungle path on the south side of the River Dee.  This is a long uphill Moderate walk.  It is for those Ramblers able to keep going steadily uphill.

We will be doing the walk in an anti-clockwise direction from the from the Forest of Birse small car park.  We will walk north over the shoulder of a hill and down into Glen Cat.  The route continues north to reach the north east shoulder of Carnferg.  We then turn south west to attain the summit with its monument to the then owner's wife.  The descent is in the same south westerly direction until we reach the Fungle Road.  This is followed above the impressive Gwaves valley towards Birse Castle.  The signed footpath goes to the west and south of the Castle, returning east to the car park.  Very Good view of the Castle near the end of the walk.
