This walk takes along trails, ridges, commons and woodland paths. We start along the higher Taff Trail.
After a gentle warm up on the flat, we brace ourselves to ascend Craig yr Allt (all of 270 metres) but at least we won't be running up it - unlike the fell runners I met on the recce.
We will hopefully be able to admire the commanding views from the top. We head further east to Caerphilly Common and its well appointed Trig point. Facilities available at the Snack Bar.
At this stage we turn round to return whence we came. This was to have been through Forest Fawr - but the lumberjacks have placed the forest out of bounds. However, necessity being the mother of ingenuity, we are lucky to be able to return along a hitherto unmarked riverside walk along the Nant y Brynau.
