Starting from Millbrook Gardens car park in the town centre, we head up through the town past the Horse Pond and George Hotel onto a footpath climbing up to Lodge Hill. This is a steady climb upwards to the Beacon and View point. All around there are superb views over Castle Cary and of the surrounding countryside, with Glastonbury Tor in the distance. We then continue on the top past a Solar farm to head back down the hill side to the B3152 road and eventually turning back to join part of the Macmillan Way (the charity founder Douglas Macmillan lived in Castle Cary). Passing the nearby Cockhill area and on through several fields to cross the Dimmer bridge over the Cary river, Again crossing several more fields to climb back up to the edge of South Cary then heading down near the parish church of All Saints, finally returning back to our starting point.
Circular walk with several steady ascents and descents, generally good footpaths with some a little overgrown parts, also some places will be muddy after rain. Couple of minor roads to manage.
