An 8-mile clockwise circular walk from the Dolgarrog Dam Memorial up to the Eigiau Dam that failed so dramatically on the 2nd November 1925. The route follows the flanks of Afon Porth-llwd, the floodwater conduit on that terrible night. An initial steep 240 m-high footpath ascent follows the north side of the river gorge and this will be taken at a comfortable pace. We then pass by the southern side of Coety Reservoir and on to Llyn Eigiau Reservoir using an easy graded trackway. Time will be allowed for an inspection of the broken dam and also lunch. The return journey will probably be along the north side of Afon Porth-llwd and back to Dolgarrog along a combination of tracks, road and footpaths.
This is a joint walk with the Dolgarrog Community Council so numbers of interested participants could be larger than normal. For this reason, the numbers attending will be capped at 25. Please submit your request to join the walk to Joanna Slattery text 07748 550798 or email joslattery10@yahoo.co.uk.
For a detailed description of the Eigiau Dam Disaster and subsequent blame allocations please see the account given by Alun Taylor in the web link provided.

Public toilets and refreshments are available only in Dolgarrog.
Dolgarrog can be reached from Llandudno, Conwy or Betws y Coed using the No. 19 bus.
