From Charing village we pass the recently restored Archbishop's Palace, which dates back to the 13thC. The Palace was visited by a number of royal guests, prominent among them being Henry VII and Henry VIII. We then pass Pett Place, which was built in the 16thC and heavily modified in the 18thC, and was once the home of comedian, Bob Mortimer. We then follow the North Downs Way before ascending to the Charing Gliding Club, where if open we can stop for tea/coffee. We then descend through woods and farmland back to Charing.
