Overview

A lovely walk along Chedworth Woods, the picturesque Colne river valley, returning through Withington Woods. Mostly level with four short but steep climbs. Fields will be muddy but paths along the river valley and through woods tend to be well drained.

Starting from Chedworth village hall we join the footpaths north of village heading across the fields and through Chedworth Woods towards Yanworth Mill. There we take the Monarch’s Way, walking along the river Coln towards the Roman Villa where we will have our coffee break. Walkers who wish to do a short walk of 5 miles can return to Chedworth from here. After scrambling uphill and through the embankment of the disused railway we turn north towards the White Way. After following this road for 200 yards we take the footpath towards Woodbridge. From there it is another short walk along the road before we turn right into Withington Woods. We are now heading towards the disused airfield and from there it is a short distance back to Chedworth village hall.
