A WALK - Leader: Kate Donaldson 10 miles
This 10 mile walk with 475m (1555') of ascent begins with most of the hard work. There’s a brief but steep climb out of Chelmorton that turns into a gentle slope up to Sough Top, one of the Peak District’s Ethels. The trig point (438m) is visible from the path whilst the crops are dormant. The descent to the Monsal Trail takes us through a lovely churchyard on the edge of Taddington, watch out for the running ducks, they live up to their name! Down in to High Dale, then up out of HIgh Dale, before we enter Priestcliffe Lees nature reserve and descent steeply to the trail.
There’s a café with toilets and outdoor seating for picnics on the Monsal Trail at 4.5 miles. Continuing along the Monsal Trail, a former railway line, takes us past disused lime kilns and through three tunnels at Chee Tor before we drop down to walk along the river Wye following part of the Peak District Boundary Walk. After all that flat walking you'll be ready for the next hill passingTopley Pike Quarry. Once we summit we're a couple of easy walking miles away from Chelmorton and might even make it back in time to stop at the pub before the coach leaves.
Obstacles: 14 unavoidable stone stiles to climb over and a couple of tight squeeze stiles to push through. Potential for mud underfoot down by the River Wye and some clambering over stones. Three roads, two potentially busy.
B WALK - Leader: Andy Watts - 8 miles
