This is a straighforward point to point walk along the beautiful Chess Valley in the Chilterns. The Chess is a chalk stream fed from rainwater aquifers so it may be flowing well after recent wet weather. The walk is mostly on good footpaths, fairly level and with a few gentle hills. We meet outside Rickmansworth station (Metropolitan line). We have to cross the M25 by road but will get that out of the way early in the walk. From there on, we will be walking through pleasant countryside and pretty villages all the way to Chesham, where descend through the outskirts to end our walk at the station (Metropolitan line). We will divert from the river for lunch at the Bedford Arms in Chenies (toilets/quick pub lunch or bring your own). The walk will be at a moderate pace although we can pause at some information boards to learn a little of the interesting history of the valley.
