Starting from Herons Green Bay Parking, we head south along the B3114 for 100 m to cross the road to a gate on the other side and to follow footpaths to Moat Farm. We then turn uphill toward a transmission tower on Breach Hill, from which we descend to the village of Ubley. Climbing from the village through woodlands to Hazel Circle on the Mendips, we continue walking up and down in the general eastward direction with lovely views of Chew Valley lake, if the weather is favorable, till we meet and walk along the Monarch’s Way, which is mostly roads for about 2 miles. After turning to descend to East Harptree village to join the Limestone Link, we head back west as far as Compton Martin to turn north to reach the car park.
If the footpaths described above near Breach Hill are too muddy to walk, the route may be switched to an alternative one. It is a gentle walk meandering through undemanding hillsides of the Mendips with views of Chew Valley lake with us most of time.
