Overview

From Bowden Bridge Car Park we take the Sett river path to Hayfield Village once at the main car/Bus park we follow the Sett Valley Trail past the reservoir until we reach the coffee shop where we change direction heading South East , crossing the A6015 road and starting a gradual ascent up Birch Vale passing Foxholes Clough and over Ollersett until we level out and walk the ridge path over New Allotments until we meet Over Hill Road which we follow Eastwards for a short while before ascending the path North past Cracken Edge and onto Chinley Churn. At the end of the rock face on our left we take the path East and descend down Lower Ashen Clough and onto Monks Meadow where we meet the A624 main Road. A short distance down the road we find the Lamb Inn where we will stop for a drink. Once refreshed we take gradual ascent past Chinley Head and follow the path that ascends to the top of Mount Famine (473m) once on the peak, we follow the ridge path and descend down Coldwell Clough where we follow the river Sett for a while before heading west to Stones House and Elle Bank and back to the campsite and the Sportsman Inn for Sunday Lunch.

Parking is £ 4.70 for the day at Bowden Bridge Car Park, but if you can, subject to spaces, park on the road just before or after the Sportsman Inn on Kinder Road, you will save yourself £4.75 & it’s only a 2-minute walk further up Kinder Road to the Bowden Bridge Car Park from where we will start the walk. There are toilets at the start of the walk by the car park / at the entrance to the campsite, on the main village Car Park, at the Coffee Shop on the Sett Valley Trail and at the Lamb Inn. Directions: - Bowden Bridge Car Park is on Kinder Road Hayfield and is approached from the A624 to Hayfield from the A6 out of Buxton.
