Overview

An outstanding walk along the border between England and Wales full of historic interest, beautiful landscapes and variety. Starting with a walk through the longest canal tunnel in Wales (bring a torch), we pass the beautiful Queen Anne ornamental gates and enter Chirk Castle's deer park, landscaped gardens and woodlands following permissive paths to Chirk Castle for a snack and toilet break. Then we descend along Offa's Dyke National Trail to a medieval battle site at the bridge over the beautiful Ceiriog Valley. We ascend steeply for a 20 minutes 140m / 460ft uphill climb to a well preserved part of Offa's Dyke for a restful lunch stop where we can admire views of the Castle and Welsh hills in the far distance. Then back through the pretty Pentre Woods to finish with a crossing of a spectacular viaduct, along the canal and over the canal aqueduct to end with tea & cake at the community Caffi Wylfa.
