Overview

This flat leisurely 5 mile walk is on mainly good surfaces with no stiles.

Please park in the Bay Horse Pub car park, Sanderson Terrace, Cramlington, NE23 6XB, What3Words blast.ship.being

The Bay Horse has kindly given permission for us to use their car park and also use their toilets before and after the walk.

How to get there

The Bay Horse is in South East Cramlington so do not follow signs for town centre.  The Bay Horse is less than half a mile from Moor Farm Roundabout.  From Moor Farm roundabout take the B1505 turnoff signposted East Cramlington then make a right turn at the mini roundabout also signposted B1505 East Cramlington.  Pass a light coloured building with Kids Planet painted on the side.  The Bay Horse is on your left just past this building.  There are a lot of tall trees around the Bay Horse so look out for a blue sign.

From Seaton Burn roundabout you can carry on to Moor Farm and follow the instructions above, or take the Cramlington sliproad before Moor Farm roundabout and take the third turnoff on the roundabout on to the A1171 which after the mini roundabout becomes the B1505.

If you approach from the High Pit area, after the traffic lights pass two bus stops and look out for the Bay Horse on your right.

If anyone wants to use public transport, the X8 bus from Haymarket to Blyth stops outside the Bay Horse.

Details of the walk

From the Bay Horse, after a 5 minute walk on pavements towards Moor Farm, we go into a wooded and wetland area called Valley Park.  We will walk up one side of the park and down the other.  We will then go along a cycle path past Ann Welfare playing fields and allotments, walk to High Pit and then cross the footbridge over the A189.  We will then walk through Lanercost and have lunch on the picnic benches at a new nature trail and park at the entrance to Cramlington Hospital (opposite Starbucks).  After lunch we will take the path round farmland to return back to the Bay Horse past the giant artwork spoon.
