Flounders' Folly is a prominent landmark in the local area, and an excursion to it from nearby Craven Arms is an enjoyable walk through some beautiful scenery. It was built in 1838 by shiping magnate Benjamin Flounders (hence the name). It fell into disrepair in the 20th century but was restored in 2004-5 by the Flounders’ Folly Trust.
We walk alongside the River Onny and through the pretty village of Halford. Unfortunately, the tower itself will be closed when we visit but if the weather is kind, we will see great views across to Wenlock Edge, Titterstone Clee, Brown Clee and the Stretton Hills.
