From the car park we pass toilets and camp site on the left to walk north west crossing Crowden Brook. After two footbridges and a gate, there’s a gradual climb crossing the moor and fords with great views over Torside and Rhodeswood Reservoirs. After Lad’s Leap and Millstone Rocks we gradually descend over Tintwistle Low Moor arriving in the small village of Tintwistle from Arnfield Lane. Crossing Tintwistle Bridge we walk alongside Bottom Reservoir and close to Valehouse and Rhodeswood Reservoirs following Longdendale Trail before crossing the dam at Torside back to the cars
Graded as moderate, though there is some rough ground
The River Etherow, a tributary of the River Mersey, rises south of Holmfirth and then flows through a chain of six reservoirs known as the Longdendale Chain delivering water to the Manchester area ie: Woodhead, Torside, Rhodeswood, Valehouse, Bottoms and Arnfield Reservoirs.
