Overview

The Destiny Bridge just north of Perth opened on 31 March 2025, crossing the A9, the main east coast rail line and the River Tay to come out close to Scone Palace with its historical assocation with the Stone of Destiny.  The bridge opens up several new walk opportunities. On this occasion we follow a route pioneered by Perth Ramblers which takes us across the old Almond Bridge to go past the site of Bertha Roman fort.  On the way to the Destiny Bridge we pass the site of the re-imagined souterrain discovered during the earthworks for the bridge. Once over the bridge we go upstream to Donald's Bank and then on a wide loop past Sherifftown and along the new Kingsway to the edge of the racecourse at Scone Park before walking along the river again to re-cross the bridge and return to the start.
