This will be a leisurely walk with points of interest and great views. It has gentle inclines, passing Galch Hill (a grade II listed houseand the seat of the Myddleton family at one time) with Denbigh Castle in the distance, and reaching Gwaenynog Hall (famous for its Beatrix Potter connection). The walk combines woodland and meadows, crossing small streams, muddy in parts so poles and gaiters are advised. We deviate from the route purposely to visit Dr Johnson's Memorial (weblink for further info attached below) and back on our route descending to the hamlet of Lawnt, on the return journey via Denbigh Castle, St Hilary's Tower and Burgess Gate.
On the way back, we will be able to see, quite close, the old North Wales Hospital, also a Grade II listed building, built in 1844-8, to provide care for Welsh speaking people suffering from mental illnesses. It is currently under redevelopment by Denbighshire C Council in partnership with Jones Bros.
