A long, beautiful, but not too challenging walk, in the picturesque Perthshire countryside.
The route starts, and finishes, at the Scottish Wildlife Trust centre at Loch of the Lowes, continues around Loch of Butterstone and then takes a slow ascent from Butterstone village up towards Riemore Lodge. This is the half way point, and the route then follows a well defined grass track between the hills before eventually coming out on a forest track near to Mill Dam where it then takes a slow descent back to the car park.
Lots of beaver activity can be seen at Mill Dam and at other points on the return leg of the walk.
The route is mainly on small roads, forest tracks and farm tracks. There is very little traffic and the underfoot is generally firm and dry, with only a few patches of wet ground along the grass track just after the half way point.
The Scottish Wildlife Trust car park is for visitors to the nature centre, but we will be allowed to use it in exchange for a small donation.
I suggest £3 per car will suffice.
There are toilets available at the car park.
