Overview

A memorable walk through some wonderful Peak District countryside.

Starting from Elton Church we walk across fields to join the Limestone Way, ascending between Robin Hood Stride and Cratcliff Tor and within sight of a prehistoric stone circle.  We turn right to proceed on an attractive country lane with great views across country towards Youlgreave before turning again, walking past Lower Greenfields and into Bradford Dale.  We follow this attractive Dale where, if we're lucky we'll see brown trout in the river, emerging at the dale end into the attractive and historic Peak District village of Middleton.  We ascend the road past Middleton Hall, turning left onto Whitfield Lane, climbing further to enjoy views over Rowlow Brook valley towards the picturesque hills opposite, turning left past Mount Pleasant Farm and descending through fields into the valley.  We  then proceed via a country lane and paths to Gratton Grange Farm, turning left to follow a path in the lee of Anthony Hill, eventually climbing through fields back to our starting point.
