Overview

This walk is for up to 25 people, including the leader.

A short and relatively flat walk from Fairfield on the Bedfordshire/Hertfordshire border, along rural tracks and some surfaced paths.

We will meet outside Tesco Express Fairfield and walk down Dickens Boulevard (many of the roads in Fairfield have names connected to literature) then cross Stotfold Road and take a gentle ascent along part of the Garden City Greenway. We will head through farmland towards the woods at Radwell then turn toward Stotfold and walk alongside the fields back to Fairfield.

Fairfield is a new development which has 900 Victorian inspired houses and 100 flats in Fairfield Hall. The hall is a Grade II listed building and a former asylum which is allegedly haunted - two nurses were apparently murdered and a two-headed calf was born there according to an ex-German POW who worked there as a hospital orderly.

On returning to Fairfield we will walk around the perimeter of the village before ending our walk at Bannatyne's (located in Fairfield Hall) for coffee/cake/lunch. Those not wishing to stay for the refreshment stop will be directed back to the meeting point of Tesco Express.

Please note that parking is very limited in Fairfield so car-sharing or using public transport to this walk is very much encouraged.

Dogs are welcome on a lead.

For information about walking with the group, including our dog policy, please visit the Stag Walkers website.

Booking your place: If you would like to join, you must book in advance using the Stag Walkers Meetup group - see Notes for how to book & what to bring. If you are unable to attend, please cancel your booking so that someone else can take your place.

Please do not turn up for a walk without booking, as places are limited.

Unless you opt in to further communications, we will only use contact information you provide to get in touch about the walk.

Please car-share or use public transport if possible. To offer a lift or ask for one from a fellow walker, please use the Meetup event page.
