This is a long walk to one of the quieter peaks on the northern edge of the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park. It starts with a walk along the beautiful Nant Menasgin where we will see evidence of an old leat, a man made waterway diversion. We then have a long steady ascent along the ridge of Cefn Cyff toward Fan y Big. In good visibility the nearby Pen y Fan and Cribyn will be close on our right hand side with Corn Du eventually making an appearance. We then follow the northern escarpment before a gradual descent back to our starting point. We will stop regularly to enjoy the views to the north, especially if the weather is fair. Very few stiles. Paths generally grassy uneven and slightly boggy if there has been any rain.
This is a long walk with plenty of ascent and rough ground underfoot. We have an alternative route should the weather forecast be poor at higher altitudes. Please note that although this route is shorter with less ascent it will be rough underfoot on open exposed ground so is not an easier alternative. Whatever the forecast please bring waterproofs, warm layers and plenty of water. Bring a packed lunch and snacks.
Booking essential as places will be limited.
