Overview

Hello Everyone

A local walk for us this Sunday courtesy of Audrey. Starting from Castle Ring at Cannock Wood we head east taking in the settlements of Farewell and Chorley before returning to base via Gentleshaw Common. Lumpy in places but nothing steep and a few stiles. We're listing it as 8.5 miles long but may be flexible if the forecast hot weather actually occurs. An earlier than usual start time of 09.30 also compensates on a warm day. Hopefully not much mud in such conditions.

As ever, please feel free to join us. Please let t us know a day or two beforehand if this is your very first time with the group. Thanks.

Registration: 09.15. Walk Start: 09.30.  Walk leader: Audrey (07981 873047)

No facilities at the start or during the walk itself. If you're travelling to reach us the toilets will be  open at Burntwood Leisure Centre, Chasetown WS7 3XH, two miles south of the start.

⚠️Our own members should note there's no rendezvous at Hednesford for this local event. Please go direct to the start.

Post walk refreshments at the nearby Park Gate Inn, Cannock Wood.

See you all at Castle Ring on Sunday morning!

Directions. Most of you will be familiar with the start venue but if not please refer to the map link above. Otherwise satnav is recommended using What3words, or as per below if you're relatively local:

Cannock Wood is best approached off the A5190 Lichfield to Cannock road at Sankey's Corner, Chase Terrace, then via the 1.75 mile dead straight Rugeley Road running due north from Sankey's Corner up Hayfield Hill into Cannock Wood.

Once in the village proceed straight across at the slightly staggered crossroads (with care as this is a blind summit from the left) into Bradwell Lane where continue for 200 yards to turn left into Park Gate Road and follow for 400 yards, passing the Park Gate Inn, to the next crossroads where straight across (with care again) and into the car park.
