A leisurely 10 mile walk starting at the free car park adjacent to Fitzwilliam railway station taking us through Fitzwilliam Country Park to Ackworth continuing northwards to Hessle. Continuing through fields to High Ackworth and East Hardwick from where we follow Whitegate Lane to Burnhill Bridge from where we follow the River Went upstream to Ackworth Moor Top. We then join the Dando Way which in part follows an abandoned railway line and takes us through Ackworth under the A638 and back into the Fitzwilliam Country Park which we walk through again but on a different path back to our start point.
No toilets at the start of the walk. A couple of difficult stiles to cross but apart from that the going is pretty easy. The prewalk was done during the dry August so could be wet, muddy and slippery when we do the walk in December. Some of the walk is on good tracks and tarmac surfaces. Probably a 3 stop walk as a couple of option for a pub stop but both towards the end of the walk. Walk suitable for dogs.
Walkers are reminded it is their responsibility to wear appropriate footwear/clothing, bring adequate food and drink and carry emergency contact details. Go to the Walks/Information for Walkers tab for more details.
