A 9.6 mile leisurely to moderate walk to get rid of the Xmas and New Year excesses through fields, woods, abandoned railway tracks and some some road walking. Even better only 600 feet of climbing! Starting at the free car park near Monckton Manor we walk down Smawell Lane to Notton, then it's onto Notton Wood Nature Reserve. Crossing the A61 our route then takes us to the pretty village of Woolley then we continue to our lunch stop at Newmiller Dam via Secker Wood. After lunch it's a short 2.5 mile walk back to our start point through Chevet Park, and Newmiller Dam Country Park onto the abandoned Chevet branch line.
No toilets at the start. Toilets available at our lunch stop. Hopefully two pubs open at lunch stop plus maybe a cafe. As a winter walk could be muddy in places so gaiters and walking poles useful.
