This village in the centre of the Lake District is well situated for walking the surrounding hills and fells. With excellent coach parking, and numerous refreshment establishments, this is the ideal place for us to go walking, or just come for the ride and enjoy a day out in the lakes. Easier walks can be had around Grasmere Lake and Rydal Water.
Starting from the site of the Royal Hotel, and calling at all pick-up points going North. Three walks will be available, with details circulated on the coach. They will range from easy to strenuous depending on the walk selected.
A Walk Leader - Dave White. A strenuous walk of 9.5 miles with a total ascent of 2,800ft. We leave Grasmere and head for Allan Bank before joining the Easedale Road and on to Helm Crag. Then walking the ridge around Grasmere Common via Broadstone Head and Codale Head. On to Eagle Crag before dropping down to Easedale Tarn and the main path back into Grasmere. This walk may be done in reverse.
B Walk Leader - Dave Eccles. 7.5 to 8 miles with a total ascent of 600ft. Heading north from the coach park across fields, then back into the far side of the village to pick up the path along the banks of Rydal Water, then up to the cave of the disused quaries, over to Rydal Mount and back into Grasmere via the coffin route.
C Walk Leader - Dave Trenbath. 6 miles with a total ascent of 650ft. Going around the Grasmere and Rydale Water Lakes and on to the coffin route to Rydal Mount. Then lakeside paths back into Grasmere. This walk takes in some places of interest concening William Wordsworth's time living in the area.
