We are the Sheffield Ramblers. We open the way for everyone in our local community to enjoy the pleasures of walking.
9:10 218 bus from the Interchange to Bakewell arr. 10:10. Aiming for the 15:40 bus back. Tickets are £2 to Bakewell. We are taking the 9:10 bus to aim for the 15:40 bus back. On the pre-walk the 16:20 bus did not turn up.
Drivers: Please meet at the Granby Road toilets.
Route: Ashford in the Water, Pennyunk Lane, Monsal Dale, Brushfield Hough, Monsal Viaduct, Monsal Tunnel, Monsal trail, Bakewell or Higgenholes as BOP for bus.
This walk has some great views especially of and from Monsal Dale, Brushfield Lane and the Viaduct. We then go through the tunnel for 'no views'.
There are a couple of significant climbs. The first up Pennyunk Lane (1.25 miles, 6% and fairly easy) then Monsall Dale to Brushfield Hough (0.5 miles, 12% and a proper climb). There are also some awkward stiles with tight squeezes.
