From the centre of Groombridge we cross the railway line to walk southwards on High Weald Landscape Trail and through fields and woods to Withyham where we shall stop in the churchyard for a picnic lunch. We return northwards, walking on the Wealdway as it follows the River Medway, and passing Burrswood on our way back to Groombridge. (Note: There is a pub/restaurant - the Dorset Arms - in Withyham but it is usually very busy on a Sunday and it is a little way off our route, so please bring refreshments with you.)
UPDATE 14 May - quite a lot of the route is on hard surfaces but where it is not, there are one or two short stretches of deep mud. Boots (or wellies, if you’re comfortable walking in them) should be fine but I wouldn’t risk trainers or low-cut walking shoes. Poles would be helpful if you have them.
