From Kippax we head up into "Billy Woods" (Townclose Hills Nature Reserve) before joining first the Lines Way (on the former Castleford-Garforth railway line) and then part of the Leeds Country Way long distance path as we walk through a mixture of farmland and woodland and make our way towards the nature reserve at RSPB St Aidan's.
After stopping beside "Oddball" at the St Aidan's Visitor Centre for lunch, we continue our route with a circuit around the nature reserve, transformed from a former opencast coal mine site into a vast wildlife-friendly wetland, before heading briefly along the River Aire towards the village of Allerton Bywater and then back to Kippax through more farmland and woodland.
