Hawthorn to Easington
Our walk on Thursday has both coast and country bringing with it some peace and quiet, with the exception of a few talking ramblers. The moderate route takes us from the outskirts of Hawthorn Village heading over to Easington Colliery. We cross Hawthorn Dene Nature Reserve twice which means going down steps and back up the other side which are a bit muddy, there are about six stiles to negotiate, a couple of fields to cross that were just wet and a bit more mud along the route. Walking poles, gaiters or over trousers will be beneficial. I actually had sun and blue sky when I did the recce so had lovely views along the coast. We do cross the North Eastern Rail Line which is controlled with lights, pass the Hawthorn Viaduct and there will also be some snowdrops towards the end of the walk.
Directions from the Civic Centre to SR7 8SH: Travel to the A183, turn right to take the A1052 through Fence Houses and on to the B1284 under the A690.
