Corbridge and Dilston
This is a moderate circular route of 8 miles that has a mixture of established paths, woodland and lane walking. The recent wet weather has resulted in some muddy sections of the route and sticks and gaiters would be helpful, but the good news is that there are large areas of firm surfaces too!
From the Corbridge Village Car Park, we set out W along the River Tyne Trail, around Dilston Haughs. On reaching Dilston Mill, we continue into Park Wood and past Duke's House. We complete a square of paths through Duke's House Woods, including the banks above Devil's Water. We return in an E direction to our lunch spot, near the Dilston Physic Garden. We cross the road bridge back over the river, do a short spell of road walking, before picking up a path to the S to High Town, E along Ladycutters Lane and finally N, back to the car park in Corbridge.
A shorter walk will kindly be made available by Dave Marshall.
Directions from Chester le Street:-
There are various options but I think this one is the quickest: follow A1M/A1 north to Junction 75; take 1st exit onto the A69 and follow to the Styford roundabout; take 2nd exit onto B6530 for Corbridge; when the crossroads for the village centre is ahead of you and the Angel pub is on your right, turn left onto the B6321 to cross the River Tyne; at the roundabout at the end of the road bridge, turn R to access the Corbridge Village Car Park.
