The walk starts with a steep climb up to the trig point on Hay Bluff, continues to Black Hill along the plateau and then descends the Cat's Back. There is a short section along a quiet road before we climb gently back up through the Olchon Valley, with stops along the way to take in the spectacular views behind us. Returning to the car park on the Offa's Dyke path.
I have described the walk as strenuous due to the steep initial climb up Hay Bluff and the steepish narrow descent of Cat's Back. Both will be taken at a leisurely pace, with stops to admire the views. The remainder of the walk is moderate.
On a clear day this walk is spectacular but if the weather is poor and visibility low we may need to cancel.
