A relaxing afternoon walk exploring the countryside east of Knebworth. The route is mostly along rural footpaths, with one section of road walking along a country lane, and includes some gentle slopes.
From Knebworth Village Hall we'll pass below the East Coast Main Line railway then through the village and its Recreation Ground, heading north-east into open fields to the edge of Stevenage. We’ll briefly enter the neighbourhood of Broadwater, passing twice under the Hertford Loop rail line, then head south-east along wooded paths past Harwood Park and through arable farmland to the edge of Datchworth.
Here we can spot the village church of All Saints, before turning south-west towards Woolmer Green. This is where we will pick up a section of the STOOP (Stevenage Outer Orbital Path), which takes us through farmland and horse paddocks. As we come out of the farmland and onto the road in Woolmer Green, we can see a gallery of signs hand painted with "Dad jokes" which might make you smile or groan. As we're leaving Woolmer Green, we'll pass under the East Coast Main Line for a second time and head north back to Knebworth.
Whether you're a regular walker or just after a calm afternoon outdoors, this walk is a wonderful way to unwind, enjoy nature, and spend some quality time with friends or family. We’re looking forward to sharing this scenic part of Hertfordshire with you—hope to see you there!
After the walk, we can join other walkers and enjoy some tasty cream teas at the village hall.
