IMPORTANT: The train will depart at 11:34 - with or without you! (it is the first train to Mountsorrel). See https://www.gcrailway.co.uk/station-facilities/quorn-woodhouse/ for station info.
A later start than usual so I have amended the details below. I suggest you arrive early, perhaps take advantage either of the cafe by the car park or the NAAFI style refreshment room on the platform itself and purchase your ticket from the ticket office there. Because the station was important in WWII it has been restored to that era, there's quite a lot to see and it's very photogenic! See the web link above for further info.
If you get there really early you should see a steam loco plus carriages heading south to Leicester at 10.09.
This is a linear walk, we meet at Quorn Railway Station to board a heritage Great Central Railway train (one of their diesel railcars) to Nunckley Halt for the Mountsorrel and Rothley Heritage Centre (http://heritage-centre.co.uk/). The cost is £6 for a single adult fare, available at the Ticket Office.
Once there I suggest we spend a while looking around the centre and maybe having lunch (take advantage of the cafe?) before setting off to walk back to Quorn. Duration of stay to be agreed on the day. We will then have the novelty of an afternoon break on the way walking back to Quorn.
Notes: There are cafes and toilets at Quorn and the Heritage centre.
Please register for this walk on Newark Ramblers website where you will also find details of our car share scheme.
