One of our longest journeys today as we make the long overdue return to this very popular destination. Surrounded by fells the wailing opportunities are varius. With Derwent Water and Cat Bells to the South, and Latrigg (the small hill) and Skiddaw (the big one) to the North there is lots of uphill walking available. Easier walks by Derwent Water, or along the old railway line overlooking the River Greta.
Three walks will be available, from easy to strenuous depending on the walk selected.
A Walk Leader - Dave Trembath - 11 miles with 1850ft of ascent. A circular walk from Keswick with Derwent Water at the centre of it. Heading south on the west side of the lake we climb up to the high point at Cat Bells. Then make our way down to the southern end of the lake. The route then takes us back to Keswick on the lakeside paths on the other side.
B Walk Leader - Dave Eccles
C Walk Leader - John Slatcher - 8 miles with a 5 stiles and a few gates. This linear walk starts at Hutton Moor End and walking country lanes and field paths until we reachthe river. Walk along the riverbank towards Thelkeld, crossing the river to reach the old railway path, which, but for a short detour over the A66 takes us into Keswick.
