Join me for this walk through the streets and fields of the village of Knowle. As we walk I will ask you to imagine what life was like for my ancestors who lived, worked and died here throughout the 18th and 19th centuries. From the park we will make our way to the High Street to spot some historic buildings that would have been familiar to my ancestors. Then we go to the church to see the Cotterrell family tomb and an interesting plaque on the wall commemorating the life of my 7x great grandfather. We will proceed along Kixley Lane to reach the Grand Union Canal and follow the towpath north to where the Hampton Road crosses it. We then follow a field track in the direction of Barston until we branch off to Elvers Green Lane. Some road walking takes us back to the village. There are no stiles and no significant inclines but some of the tracks could be muddy after rain. Post walk refreshments will be in the Red Lion, an early 17th century timbered pub where my 5x great aunt Eleanor Cotterrell was the landlady for 40 years until she died in 1897.
