Starting in picture postcard Lacock, location of many film and TV productions- think Pride and Prejudice, Wolf Hall, and Harry Potter- the walk goes east past the former home of Henry Fox-Talbot the British pioneer of photography. Then to Bewley Common and Bowden Park, through woods and on to Nocketts Hill where extensive views are possible. Turning west it heads down towards the river Avon, passes two short, renovated sections of the former Wilts & Berks Canal, then goes through the picturesque hamlet of Reybridge and back into Lacock next to a ford. (Not through it)!
Please bring a light picnic lunch and drink
Wear suitable footwear
(Cafes are available in Lacock).
Please allow extra time getting to Laycock if using the A36, which although open now near Limpley Stoke, still has roadworks there with only one lane open & traffic lights. This could cause some delay, although hopefully not a lot early on a Sunday morning. Alternative routes are available.
Directions: Laycock is just off the A350, 2 miles north of Melksham.
Follow signpost for Laycock and signs for car park.
