This is a moderate (B/B+) walk of open hillsides, largely without paths so it is tussocky and heathery for much of the way and although the climb is never steep, it is quite demanding.
We start from the gates at Ladyland House, Kilbirnie and walk a little bit of tarmac to reach a farm track where we start our gradual ascent. We pass the ruins of Garnock Castle and head first for Burnt Hill then the cairn at the Auchenbourach hills and the ford at Kilbanes Burn where we will stop for lunch. We complete our circular walk via the pleasant and easy path through the abandoned Cockston Farm back to the Ladyland gates.
Robust boots and poles will be very useful.
Parking at Ladyland Gates is very limited so please contact the walk leader to agree lifts so that only full cars are parking at the gates. In addition to meeting at Morrison's, we can share cars from the car park next to Tesco by the Kilbirnie roundabout at Radio City. Note do not park in Tesco's car park which is restricted, but instead park in the free car park accessed off the roundabout.

The gates at Ladyland House, 2 miles up Dipple Road, Kilbirnie. Please do not arrive there solo in your car. Instead, offer lifts at the free car park at the roundabout by Radio City in Kilbirnie.
