Overview

From the roadside parking in Lea Bridge, we cross the River Derwent and Cromford Canal to climb the High Peak Trail to Black Rocks before descending to Cromford. We then climb above Matlock Bath through Upperwood and drop down steeply to the town before a long climb up to Riber Hall. We then walk southwards down Hearthstone Lane and pass through Counbs Wood and Bow Wood to return to the start point. Although the walk is classed as moderate, there are three long, steep climbs plus a steep descent through Slinter Wood where the use of poles is recommended. There are toilets in Matlock Bath.

Please make sure you have an ICE (in Case of Emergency) card on you when out walking – you know it makes sense - if you don’t have one then ask the walk leader for one before the walk starts.

On our walks, we regret no dogs please UNLESS the walk is described as DOG FRIENDLY.
