This is an easy/moderate 10 mile circular walk around Marple Bridge, parking at the free hilltop Mellor Church / mesolithic site. The walk goes down via Mellor golf course to the Goyt river and then onto the Marple Bridge canal locks and borrows selections of two country parks. The walk follows a beechwood woodland path along a steady but steep path. There is a 5 minute section of A road, but on a defined tarmac path from which the route travels along minor lanes and drovers trails on open countryside back to our starting point. There are toilets at the lynett clough scout camp after 20 minutes and after 1.5 hours at the start of Etherow Country Park. There is an excellent country pub very close to the church that is booked for those who would like to rest before heading home.
Paul has also booked a table for 9 at the Devonshire Arms for 3.15 on the Sunday. It is very close to the Church.
It would help to know those who want to eat / drink after the walk. Paul can cancel or amend up to the day before.
Walkers from other groups are always welcome, as are non-members wanting to sample walking with our friendly group of ramblers. Just turn up and make yourself known to the walk leader.
Please make sure you have an ICE (in Case of Emergency) card on you when out walking – you know it makes sense - if you don’t have one then ask the walk leader for one before the walk starts.
On our walks, we regret no dogs please UNLESS the walk is described as DOG FRIENDLY.
