The walk starts at the Scarbrough Taps, which is where the Take A Hike monthly pub meet takes place. This building has a blue plaque.
We will wend our way back and forth through the centre of Leeds, taking time to read a selection of blue plaques. We will also stop to look at art work and buildings. Although we pass many cafes, pubs, etc, we will not be stopping at them as we need to continue with the walk. There are benches in various places, so we will take breaks as required.
Once we have seen four of the medieval gateway blue plaques we will head through the Dark Arches to the canal. As we walk along the canal path we have views of some of the distinctive buildings on the Leeds skyline.
We cross the river and head to the wagon hoist tower at Wellington Place and then to Monk Bridge viaduct garden. Returning along the canal we pass the Italianate Towers of Globe Works and head along Marshall Street to see the Egyptian architecture of Temple Works. From there it is a short walk back to the start point.
This walk will take at least four hours to complete. Please wear footwear that is suitable for walking and bear in mind pavements have a harder impact on your feet and legs. Please bring food and drink with you. As the walk is city centre based, you will be able to leave the walk at any time.
