This walk is a varied one that takes many areas of Londons docklands and wharfs that have been regenerated in recent years, from its trading days to its more ‘quiet’ London lifestyle. Taking in Canary Wharf, Shadwell, Wapping and the O2 Arena is an example of how much a city can change.
The walk finishes near Tower Bridge and gives great views of The Thames and views will change as we move from day to evening. Subject to tide times, we may also be able to pop onto the Thames beach.
In addition there will be an optional for a (mild) pub crawl were we take some of the excellent pubs in Wapping and Limehouse, that back onto the Thames. Starting at the Prospect of Whitby in Wapping we will likely finish at the Grapes in Limehouse, which is owned by actor Sir Ian McKellan. Please note that we will retrace some of the walk to do this, which will add about 1 mile to the walk.
Walking shoes are recommended for this walk.
Places are limited on this walk and must be booked through the walk leader.
The group walk at a steady pace of 2.5 miles an hour, and there is requirement of all walkers to respect the general pace.
Walk is a 10:15 meet for 10:30 start.
Please note, this is a London city walk - so toilet stops are very limited on route. There will be toilets near the start, but you need to allow time for them.
There will be no lunch break on route, but we will stop halfway for a coffee / refreshment stop.
