The village of Llanrhaeadr-yng-Nghinmeirch takes its name from the spring on the hillside which is now known as St Dyfnog’s Well. Llan=church and rhaeadr=waterfall.
This walk is packed with interesting features, not least the well but also St Dyfnog's Parish Church and its Jesse window (dating from 1533). We will walk through ancient woods with small stone bridges and running water from springs to the well itself, which became known for its healing powers, and was frequented by the monk, St Dyfnog, in the 6th century.
Whilst it is a shorter walk than you may be accustomed to, it's a worthwhile moderate hike to 700ft, affording great views (bring a camera if you wish, as well as a packed lunch), and it's an area not often walked, as there are many rickety stiles (as well as a few hidden ones).
